Unincorporated Ventura County Sucessfully Upgrades its FEMA Community Rating System (CRS) Program
On May 1, 2016 all new and renewal flood insurance policies for properties in the unincorporated areas of Ventura County began receiving up to a 25% premium discount annually as a result of the County's CRS class 5 rating.
The FEMA Floodplain Management & Insurance Branch Chief, Gregor Blackburn presented the FEMA Community Rating System class 5 plaque to Supervisor Chair Linda Parks at the March 22, 2016 County of Ventura Board of Supervisors meeting.

Unincorporated Ventura County: A Leader in the Community Rating System
- 6% of all 22,000 floodplain communities across the nation currently participate in the CRS program.
- Only 8% of all floodplain communities have a CRS Class 5 or better.
- Residents in the Unincorporated Ventura County have saved almost $1 Million in flood insurance costs since the County entered the CRS in October 2011 (average savings of $355.00/year).
- It is estimated that flood insurance savings will be approximately $1.6 Million between 2016 and 2021 (average policy savings of $448.00/year).
